Congratulations! Let gay weddings begin! Oct. 10, 2014 was a banner day for same sex marriage in North Carolina as the U.S. District Court Judge Max O. Cogburn, Jr., in Asheville issued a ruling shortly after 5 p.m. declaring the ban approved by state voters in 2012 unconstitutional.

Today, let’s talk about how to customize gay weddings. Finding an officiant is first on the list. Many religions leave the choice to their local churches, rather than deny such services. There are many Unitarian Universalist, Universal Life and privately ordained people to choose from.  Did you know of this organization? The American Ethical Union,, tells where you can find local Ethical Humanists to marry you. You don’t need to address your gay status in any part of the day. The more secular the officiant, the more at ease you will feel during the creation process of your vows.

Truthfully, everyone creates their wedding. Perhaps you choose to wear your rings on the right hand instead of the left. There is language to consider as you describe your wedding party; perhaps they are “witnesses” and not “bridesmaids.” If registries are your thing, don’t take it personally when computer programs continue to categorize “bride” and “groom.” You can play with this by swapping names at each store you choose! You can purchase this book, take a look at how others are scheduling their special day,

We love the gay musicians; Queen, Elton John, Sade, k.d.Lang and all the others who have recorded fabulous love and dance songs. Witness David Letterman sponsoring this new band out of Birmingham, Alabama, St. Paul and the Broken Bones, singing “Call Me.”

What can I say? Call me the romantic I am, for love makes the world go round. Weddings are for showing this loving support for the same sex couple who has been through a lot, both emotionally and legally, to get to this place. Carolina Wedding DJ will do them proud; honored to be asked to pla for this most special exchange of vows.
